Did You Know Your Insurance May Cover Lactation Visits?
Great news for new and expecting parents: many major insurance plans now cover up to six visits (or more!) with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)—and Richmond Birth and Baby is here to help you make the most of that benefit.
While coverage can vary by individual plan, it's absolutely worth checking with your provider to see what’s available to you. If you're already paying for insurance, why not use it to access expert breastfeeding support?
We’re In-Network With These Major Providers
At Richmond Birth and Baby, we are proud to be in-network with:
Aetna
Cigna (via Wildflower Health)
UnitedHealthcare
We’re also a trusted partner of The Lactation Network, which helps families access care with little to no out-of-pocket cost.
Have Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS)?While BCBS is not currently contracting with private practices in Virginia, we offer affordable self-pay packages to ensure you still receive the expert lactation care you deserve. We’re also happy to provide a Superbill you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
Why Lactation Support Matters
Breastfeeding is natural—but that doesn’t mean it always comes naturally. Working with one of our IBCLCs before and after birth can make a huge difference in how confident and supported you feel.
Here’s how we can help:
Prenatal consultations to prepare you for breastfeeding
Postpartum visits to assist with latch, positioning, and comfort
Weight checks to ensure your baby is thriving
Personalized guidance tailored to your unique needs and goals
