Well, here it is, our last Book Club...at least until we resume again in September.
May's Book club will be centered around a brunch and small celebration for the upcoming holiday of MOTHER'S DAY! We expect you to be celebrated on the official day, but figured it would be fun for us to celebrate just as moms (and maybe a few babies). Our guest speaker this month is Heydi Marshall, former former birth and postpartum doula. Here's what she has to say about herself:
"Hi, I'm Heydi. I’m a a wife of 13 years, and mother to 5, four of whom were homebirths! We currently homeschool, and I am a lover of books, gardening, making lists, and being a bilingual family.
Supporting and encouraging women as they transition into motherhood and its many stages is truly where my heart is."
Between Heydi and Kristi Ramey (who will lead the group), there will be 46 years of mothering experience for you all learn from. And if you want a little taste of their mother-to-mother support style, here is an article Kristi Ramey wrote on the subject just last year:
Of course, we will have our usual Q & A too, because as moms, we know you have questions, and Google doesn't have the personal experience that your friends do. ;)
If you're new here, hi!
We do a monthly Book Club from September through May right here in our Richmond Birth and Baby offces in Henrico, VA. Each month we cover a new book or topic pretaining to pregnancy, postpartum, or parenting. It is absolutely NOT required that you read the book, or have experience with the monthly topic, in order to attend. This is meant to be a time of community interaction and encouragement, not one more thing you "need to do". Moms are welcome to bring their nursing babes, and we always include some yummy snacks and time to visit with each other!

Here are some of the things we have heard from moms this year:
"Honestly, it was just really nice to be around some other grown-ups and chat about our lives."
"Having a new topic every time was nice. If something didn't appeal to me, I could still always come to the next one."
"OMG, an actual group where we can discuss things AND still have babies with us? I still have one attached to my boobs, so it's really nice to be included somewhere."
"The location is nice. They have space for the babies and the host is also an IBCLC so that's kinda cool, cause you can ask her questions during the Q&As, even if it's not on topic."
"It was easy to come and hang out, even if I didn't do the reading. Because let's be honest-I have a new baby and it's just not happening right now."

While we are sad that this season of Book Club is ending, we are THRILLED to wrap it up celebrating the incredible women in our community. Meeting old and new faces every month has been such a treat for us, we the little community we are forming is something pretty great,
If you're not able to join us for this upcoming meeting, go ahead and share with a friend. You never know when someone might need a little encouragement fom other women in the trenches of motherhood. This event is always free, however, it helps us a lot if you RSVP using the link below, just so we can get a headcount for food. Thank you!
