Meet Leann

- MSW, Birth Doula -

Leann stands in front of a white wall, smiling

Leann Ragland was born and raised in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and moved to Richmond six years ago to pursue her education. After giving birth in 2018 to her son, Leann became passionate about birth work and assisting families in navigating their transitions into parenthood. Having a doula for her first birth was a transformative experience and led to her desire to become involved in others’ journeys.

In 2021, she graduated with her Master’s in Social Work from VCU and is now working towards licensure with the plans of becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in perinatal mental health. She is currently an advocate and case worker at VCU Health with a program called Project Empower, working with women who are pregnant/postpartum and experiencing domestic and sexual assault.

Leann’s goal is to practice compassionate and holistic care for all families entering parenthood. She works with parents to feel supported, informed, and empowered throughout their pregnancy and birth. She believes that "Birth is a sacred experience" and hopes to enrich that for each family, holding space and an open mind, while being a guide throughout their journey.

She is supportive of all ways in which families decide the path for them to bring their baby into this world and meets each client where they are in the process, following their lead.

Outside of work, Leann enjoys spending time with her 3-year-old son, taking him on adventures throughout Richmond and other areas, and they love spending time outdoors. She also likes to read and listen to podcasts and in her free time. You can usually find her spending time with friends and family.
